Overview of the Programme

GISM offers one-year Postgraduate Diploma programme that combines intensive tuition in a suite of postgraduate-level fundamental bioscience courses, taught in English, specifically designed to prepare GISM Students for entry into Massey Masters Programme (one year). Students who successfully complete and pass all of the examination requirements of the GISM Programme (preferred with B grade average or above), will be eligible to enter Massey University Master of Science Programme and continue their studies towards Biological Science specialization in Master’s Degrees:

Students who successfully complete 120 credits of study at Massey under the Master of Science programme will be eligible to receive either the Master of Science (Biological Science) degree from Massey University.

Overview of the program

Massey is one of the few universities in New Zealand where your information sciences qualification covers all three disciplines of computer science, information technology and software engineering. You’ll learn a broad spectrum of skills from business management through to developing software and hardware. A Master of Science degree will put you on a path to gain well-developed research skills for working on highlevel research projects in science fields both in industry and academia. In this study you will develop analytical thinking and problem solving skills while developing your knowledge further for converting subject matters into practice for achieving meaningful outcomes in your research studies.
Scientists are continuing to grow in demand all over the world. The skills you gain in this course will prepare you for work in a number of areas, including: industry and research sectors; food and drink industries; pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industries; biomedical and environmental protection agencies. The emphasis on research in this course equips you with the knowledge and skills required to continue on to PhD study and an academic career.

Pathway and Awards of the course

Degree is awarded by Massey University. In addition, GISM Campus will issue a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) qualification upon successful completion of the first year studies of the degree completed in Sri Lanka and this will be accepted at Massey University for the entry to Master of Science.

The Master programmes are full time (8-10 months)/ part-time (12 months): Monday to Friday – Commencing in February/May -September every year.

University Preparatory Programme – An induction programme to the University Life commences in January and April to provide the necessary skills for new students to begin their studies at the university. This programme is delivered at a concessional fee for all registered students.

Course Contents

Because we know that many students prefer to keep their options open during early stages of study, our programme offers general modules in the first year and second year of your degree, before starting to specialize in year third and fourth years.

Earning Capacity

Work during studies:

New Zealand provides 20 hours of part-time work during studies and 2-3 months of full-time work during holidays. Assumption: NZD 25 per hour earning capacity during studies.

Post study work:

After the degree you are able to apply for Graduate Job Search Visa which allows you to remain in New Zealand and work full time in your chosen careers. Assumption: $45,000NZD annual salary at a full-time job.
